Mission Statement
Village Baptist Church exists to win people to Christ and develop them into active disciples: equipping them to serve as ministers in the church, community, and around the world, leading them to worship God in spirit and truth.
Covenant of Membership
Having been called by God from darkness unto light by the regenerating work of God the Holy Spirit (I Peter 2:9; Ephesians 2:8-10; Titus 3:5; John 3:16-17; Romans 10:9-10).
Having been baptized by total immersion into the name of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19-20). And understanding the message of Ecclesiastes 5:1-7 as it teaches on the seriousness of vows and commitments,
I, _________________________________begin or continue my spiritual journey as a believer in the resurrected Christ by covenanting with my fellow believers (brothers and sisters in Christ) at the Village Baptist Church of Marin City and Petaluma, California to practice the following simple, foundational and basic spiritual disciplines for any true believer in Jesus of Nazareth:
- 1. That I will spend time daily with God in prayer, Bible reading and Christian meditation. Psalm 1; Psalm 119:9-16; II Timothy 3:16-17; and Joshua 1:7-8!!
- 2. That I will attend church worship services on a regular basis including Sunday School and/or Cell Group. Acts 2:42-47, Hebrews 10:19-25. I understand that members have to be present in order to be involved. Since Jesus was in the habit of attending worship services in the synagogues, it is essential for me to take church attendance as a priority; therefore, I will follow his example. Luke 2:41-52. See also Luke 4:14-19 (16!).
- 3. That I will honor the Lord with the first fruits of my labor by being a Tither, giving at least 10% of my income and financial blessings to the Lord's ministry through the Village Baptist Church of Marin City and Petaluma. Proverbs 3:9-10; Malachi 3:8-10; Acts 4:32-35; Acts 5:1-10; II Corinthians 9:6-11; Exodus 36:1-7; Leviticus 27:30-33; and I Corinthians 16:2.
- 4. That I will actively and consistently participate in one of the group ministries of the church (prayer groups, men's group, women's group, youth group, and other fellowship groups approved by the under-shepherd, the pastor). I understand that participation in a small group is essential for my Christian growth and fellowship. Acts 2:42-47; I John 1:1-7; Acts 6:1-7 and II Timothy 3:10-17.
- 5. That I will explore, discover, and regularly use my spiritual gift(s) for the edification of the body of Christ here at Village. Ephesians 4; I Corinthians 12, 13, and 14; Romans 12 and I Peter 4.
- 6. That I will refrain from behavior and speech that leads to division and confusion in the body of Christ. Accordingly I will not live my Christian life as a gossip, a mischief-maker, nor be involved in the slander of another member of the Village Baptist Church. Proverbs 6:16-19; Leviticus 19:16; Proverbs 20:19; Romans 16:17-18; II Thessalonians 3:11; I Timothy 5:13; I Peter 4:15 and James 1:26.
Additionally, I promise that when, for any reason, I leave the fellowship of this body of believers, I will as soon as possible unite with another Christian Church where I can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles in God’s Word.
I enter into this covenant of my own free will understanding that Village Baptist Church requires these Bible-inspired principles as basic requirements for covenant church membership.
