What We Believe
Village Baptist Church is a Bible-believing church. Our beliefs are rooted in Scripture, and we seek to faithfully follow Jesus Christ in everything we believe and practice.
The Bible
We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God and the final authority in all matters of faith and practice. The Scriptures were written by human authors under the guidance and leadership of the Holy Spirit, and we believe the entire 66 books of the Bible are inspired by God and trustworthy in all that they teach.
As 2 Timothy 3:16–17 teaches, Scripture is profitable for teaching, correction, training, and equipping God's people to live faithfully.
We believe the Bible should be interpreted carefully through grammatical-historical interpretation, seeking to understand what the biblical authors intended to communicate in their historical and literary context. This means recognizing the different kinds of literature found in Scripture—including history, poetry, prophecy, parables, letters, and other forms—rather than treating every passage in exactly the same way.
We also believe God's Word is essential to spiritual growth. Christians grow as they consistently read, study, meditate on, and live according to the Scriptures.
The Trinity
We believe in one true God who eternally exists in three distinct persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
The Father is God.
The Son is God.
The Holy Spirit is God.
Yet there is only one God.
The three persons of the Trinity are co-eternal, co-equal, and of the same divine nature. Each is fully God, equal in power and glory.
Jesus Christ
We believe Jesus Christ is truly God and truly man. He is the eternal Son of God who became human without ceasing to be God.
Jesus lived a sinless life, died on the cross for our sins according to the Scriptures, was buried, and physically rose from the dead on the third day according to the Scriptures.
Jesus perfectly reveals God to us. As John 1 teaches, He is the eternal Word who was with God and was God, and through Him we come to know the Father.
We believe Jesus Christ is the only Savior and the only way to God.
Salvation
We believe salvation is by grace alone, through faith in Jesus Christ.
Salvation cannot be earned through good works, religious activity, or human effort. As Ephesians 2:8–10 and Titus 3:5 teach, salvation is the gracious work of God.
We believe Jesus died as a sacrifice in our place, bearing the penalty for our sins. A person is saved by placing their trust in Jesus Christ and what He accomplished through His death and resurrection.
Jesus said:
“I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” — John 14:6
The apostles likewise proclaimed that salvation is found in no one else (Acts 4:12).
The Church
We believe the church is the family of God, made up of those who have placed their faith in Jesus Christ. Christians are called to gather together for worship, biblical teaching, prayer, fellowship, service, and encouragement.
We believe every follower of Jesus is called not simply to attend church, but to grow as a disciple and participate in the mission God has given His church.
At Village Baptist Church, we express that mission through Gather, Grow, and Go:
Gather to worship God together.
Grow as disciples of Jesus Christ.
Go to share the gospel and serve our community and world.
Our Baptist Convictions
Village Baptist Church is affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention. Additional details concerning our doctrinal beliefs can be found in the Baptist Faith and Message, which provides a fuller statement of the historic Baptist convictions we share.
Above all, our desire is to remain faithful to Jesus Christ and to the Word of God as we seek to win people to Christ, develop disciples, equip believers to serve, and worship God in spirit and truth.
